It’s Tuesday

Welcome to my site! I'm Lach Mullen, and I'm glad to see you here. Please feel free to click around, read what you will, check the "About Lach" page, and leave a comment or message. I'm so glad you're here! If you have any ideas of suggestions, let me know!

It’s Tuesday and we still don’t have power.  We are currently visiting the campus of the University of Houston pretending to be students and making good use of free electricity, cable, and wifi in the business building.  Lach is teaching this week at our community group from Ephesians and he needed to meet up with our regular Bible study leader who teaches here at the university.  He also needed a place to get online and do some research so that he would be prepared to teach.  So, we packed up our electronics and headed to the UofH campus which seems to have endured some significant damage from hurricane Ike, and yet resumed classes today!  I’ve been intrigued overhearing student conversations as I’ve been sitting here checking my email and Facebook.  Most are saying they still don’t have power at their homes, and most think it’s weird that they have class today.  I remember being a student and always hoping that class was canceled.  It’s weird to be on the opposite side of things now.  I am desperately hoping that the schools where I have been subbing reopen SOON!  I would really like to start subbing again, but all of the schools that I sub at are closed all week.  The kiddos are probably happy, but I am not.  I want to work!  Weird!  I’ve heard that schools may reopen on Monday.

We cleaned out our freezer this morning.  We will probably finish cleaning out the refrigerator this evening.  We tried to eat as much as we could so we wouldn’t have to throw much away and I think we did an ok job.  Unfortunately its difficult to go thru near-full jars and bottles of jam, salad dressing, mustards, and other condiments.  Last night we headed to Pearland to help our friends eat a bunch of meat that they could no longer keep cold enough to save.  It was really fun to see a number of our friends from church and feast on meat!  They had hotdogs, two kinds of sausage, pulled pork, chicken, hamburgers, salmon, and then some!  They felt good about using it up rather than having to throw it out.

We don’t know when our power will be restored, but until then we are very much enjoying the cool front that is moving through Houston.  We’ve slept comfortably with the windows open over the last couple of nights.  If this cool weather moves out and we still don’t have electricity, we may have to arrange to sleep over at somebody’s house, but for now we stay home and have candle lit evenings, awesome french press coffee, camp stove meals, and our battery powered radio to keep us connected to the happenings around us.

Thanks everyone for praying for us down here and for checking our blog for updates!  You are welcome to try calling, but we are still barely receiving calls because the networks are so busy.
