Or don’t, not like I care. I tend toward the “linguist” side of things, feeling that as long as you are effectively conveying meaning through speech, no one should care what words or sounds you are using. Maybe I only hold that view because I often make up or intentionally mis-pronounce words and I’m justifying… hmm…

Even with my linguistic tendencies, formal language is very interesting to me. Maybe it’s the linear computer code writer inside of me, maybe the conservative roots I have, but it’s so interesting to hear all the rules and imagine this person who communicates perfectly.

Paul Brians, Professor of English at Washington State University has this well-known and immensely useful web page where he describes common english errors, common non-errors and everything in between. Very helpful when writing a resume, a paper, or simply to brush up and clean up your email correspondence.
